Details

Adventure. Authenticity. Exploration. These three ideas define this tour. Leave the trails and cookie-cutter experiences behind. Venture off trail through Denali's magical boreal forest on a guided nature walk. Leave the navigation to your guide. They know the landscape like the back of their hand.

Now, imagine yourself in that moment. Your feet sink into the thick peat moss blanketing the forest floor. Your guide hands you a fistful of wild blueberries. They taste far better than anything you've ever bought at the store. Rich, complex flavors fill your palate as your guide shares their nutritional benefits. Then, out of the corner of your eye, you notice movement. A snowshoe hare. It hasn't completely shed its ivory-white winter coat. Your guide smiles and decides to follow it. Why not? You're not confined to a trail.

That moment, the taste of wild blueberries, the soft moss beneath your feet, and the thrill of following wildlife, is exactly what we want you to experience. The Wilderness Wonders Tour was designed to create moments like these. The scene you just imagined is not an exception. The magic begins the moment you leave the trail.

Because guiding tours like this requires a high level of skill and experience, very few companies offer them. Opportunities like this are rare. Don't let yours slip away. Availability is limited and bookings are accepted on a first come, first served basis, so don't wait for someone else to determine the course of your vacation.

BEAUTIFUL DESPITE THE RAIN

I had a fantastic time on Northern Epics’ Wilderness Wonders hiking tour. It was so beautiful despite the rain. This however, just made the bloom of mushrooms incredible.

EXPLORING THE BOREAL FOREST WITH ABBY

We did the Wilderness Wonders Tour on September 7 and had a great time. Our guide, Abby, took us off-trail to explore the boreal forest, pausing to teach us about the plants, berries, and animals that live here.

Policies

  • Special requirements

Small children must be accompanied by and supervised by an adult at all times. Our guides love kids, but they can't chase down runaway children and guide a tour at the same time. Believe me, they've tried.

  • Restrictions

This is a four hour off-trail hike. You'll be doing some minor bushwhacking.

If you have mobility or health issues, I would recommend giving our team a call at (907) 687-2070 to discuss if you'll be up for this hike. It's not super strenuous, but four hours is a long time to be on your feet. Especially with uneven terrain!

  • Extras

We provide trekking poles and rain jackets!

  • Disclaimers

This tour does not take place within the boundaries of Denali National Park. The Park Service doesn't allow us to guide off-trail there, so we do it just outside of the Park boundaries instead!

  • Weather Policy

Every effort is made to ensure your hike takes place as planned. Tours continue in rain, cold, and heat, but cannot operate in hazardous conditions. In the event of lightning, heavy smoke, high winds, or ice, a tour may need to be modified or canceled. If modifications are necessary, guests will be notified and may opt for a full refund. In the rare case of a full cancellation, a full refund is issued.

  • Cancellation Policy

You can cancel for a full refund anytime until your guide arrives to pick you up! That means that you don’t have to worry about getting sick, the weather being bad, your flight being delayed, or anything else!

  • Child Policy

Children of any age are welcome on this tour as long as they’re either able to walk the whole time at the pace of the group or be carried by parents.

  • Shuttle Availability

All guests are provided complimentary pickup for every tour. Pickup is available from any local hotel, lodge, or arranged custom location—simply provide the location. A text message from the assigned guide is sent the day before the tour with the exact pickup time, meeting location, and any other details you need to know for your hike.
