Details

If you love jaw dropping views, a rewarding physical challenge, and an up close look at what makes Denali truly extraordinary, this tour was made for you. In the words of one satisfied guest, Alicia G., it was simply "the best guided tour I have ever had."

Leave the buses and boardwalks behind. On this hike, you'll climb high into the Alaska Range, where the wind meets your face and the rocks shift beneath your feet. As the landscape opens up around you, the views become impossible to look away from. Rugged mountains rise like monolithic castles. Wide valleys stretch endlessly into the distance. The greens, reds, and blues of the tundra weave together like a patchwork quilt found nowhere else on earth

And there is still more to see. Push higher up the steep ridge, scramble over jagged rocks, and stroll along saddles carpeted with alpine wildflowers. Later in the season, graze on wild blueberries, lingonberries, currants, and more along the way.

A PHENOMENAL HIKE UP SUGARLOAF WITH ADRIAN

My wife and I did the Into the Mountains Tour with Adrian. Our hike went up Sugarloaf, and it was phenomenal. A few days before it snowed so all the mountain tops had snow, which made for beautiful pictures.  Adrian was very knowledgeable about the plants and wildlife in the area.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND: INTO THE MOUNTAINS WITH DON

Great experience!  The views are spectacular along the “Into the Mountain” tour.  Our guide, Don, stopped several times to describe vegetation, trees, berries, etc. We tried some berries and saw some bear poop that was full of berries that had been there for a couple of weeks.

Policies

  • Weather Policy

Every effort is made to ensure your hike takes place as planned. Tours continue in rain, cold, and heat, but cannot operate in hazardous conditions. In the event of lightning, heavy smoke, high winds, or ice, a tour may need to be modified or canceled. If modifications are necessary, guests will be notified and may opt for a full refund. In the rare case of a full cancellation, a full refund is issued.

  • Cancellation Policy

You can cancel for a full refund anytime until your guide arrives to pick you up! That means that you don’t have to worry about getting sick, the weather being bad, your flight being delayed, or anything else!

  • Child Policy

Because this hike is more challenging and strenuous, participants must be at least 12 years old. If you feel your child should be an exception to this rule, contacting the office directly can allow for a discussion about whether the hike may be arranged as a private tour.

  • Shuttle Availability

All guests are provided complimentary pickup for every tour. Pickup is available from any local hotel, lodge, or arranged custom location—simply provide the location. A text message from the assigned guide is sent the day before the tour with the exact pickup time, meeting location, and any other details you need to know for your hike.

  • Special requirements

Children must be 13 and up. For younger children, give us a call. We can make some exceptions for private tours.

  • Restrictions

This tour is not for everyone. It's steep and rocky, and can be loose in some areas.

While I can't tell you exactly how far you'll go or how much elevation you'll gain, be prepared for 5-6 miles and 1500-2000 feet of elevation gain.

  • Extras

We provide trekking poles and rain jackets!

  • Disclaimers

This tour doesn't take place within the boundaries of Denali National Park. The best trails we have access to for this tour are actually outside of the National Park, and that's where you'll be going. These are locals-only type trails that you're unlikely to find on a map.
