Table of Contents

If you’re planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Denali National Park, three days is the perfect amount of time to experience the best of Alaska’s wilderness — from trails and peaks to unforgettable adventure tours. Whether you’re exploring the park by bus, zipping through the boreal forest, or flying over Denali itself, this Denali travel itinerary will help you make the most of every moment.

Day 1: Adventure Awaits – Denali ATV & Zipline Tours

Morning: Denali ATV Adventures

Kick off your trip with a guided ATV tour through Denali’s backcountry. You’ll ride along scenic ridgelines, splash through creek beds, and take in panoramic views of the Alaska Range. The Denali Wilderness Adventure Tour from Denali ATV Adventures is a favorite, combining trail riding with incredible photo opportunities.

Afternoon: Denali Park Zipline Tour

After your morning ride, keep the adventure going with an unforgettable aerial experience at Denali Park Zipline. Soar through the treetops on a series of ziplines and sky bridges while surrounded by views of the Alaska Range. The hands-free braking system and dual-racer finale make it perfect for families, friends, and thrill-seekers alike. These are two activities in the Denali area you can do in one day that you won’t want to miss!

Dinner: 49th State Brewing or Prospectors Pizzeria & Alehouse

Cap off your first day with a hearty meal at one of Denali’s best local restaurants.

  • 49th State Brewing serves up craft beer and Alaskan fare in a fun, outdoor-friendly atmosphere — you can even check out the famous Into the Wild bus replica out front.
  • Or head to Prospectors Pizzeria & Alehouse for wood-fired pizzas, local brews, and live music in the heart of Denali Canyon.

Day 2: Discover Denali National Park

There’s plenty to do inside Denali National Park, from hiking and wildlife viewing to ranger programs and scenic drives. Here are two of our favorite ways to spend a day exploring the park:

Option 1: Explore Denali Park Road

For flexibility and freedom, drive the first 15 miles of Denali Park Road, which is open to private vehicles. Along the way, you’ll pass through forests and open tundra, with excellent chances to spot wildlife like moose, caribou, and even bears. Make your way to the Savage River Loop Trailhead, a beautiful 2-mile loop that follows the Savage River through a canyon surrounded by towering peaks.
Before heading into the park, stop by the Denali Visitor Center to learn more about the park’s history, geology, and wildlife — it’s the perfect starting point for first-time visitors.

Option 2: Denali Bus Tour

If you’d rather sit back and let someone else do the driving, consider booking a Denali Bus Tour. These tours range from short narrated natural history trips to full-day excursions deep into the park (weather permitting). The guides are knowledgeable, the scenery is stunning, and the wildlife viewing opportunities are exceptional — with potential sightings of bears, Dall sheep, moose, and caribou.

The “Natural History Tour” goes to Mile 17 (Primrose Ridge) with about 4.5–5 hours round-trip; the “Tundra Wilderness Tour” goes to Mile 43 (East Fork River) in approx. 5–5.5 hours.

The non-narrated “Transit/Green” buses allow more independent exploring (hop-on/hop-off) but without guaranteed commentary.

Dinner: Return to Denali Canyon for dinner and drinks. Whether you go back to 49th State Brewing for another round or try Prospectors Pizzeria for something new, both spots are great for unwinding after a full day of exploring.

Day 3: Take to the Skies – Denali Flightseeing Tour

Your final day in Denali calls for something extraordinary — seeing the park from above.

Flightseeing Adventure

Choose between four unforgettable options available through Experience Denali’s flightseeing tours:

  • Helicopter Tour with Glacier Landing: Experience a thrilling flight into the Alaska Range followed by a landing directly on a glacier. Step out onto the ice, breathe in the crisp alpine air, and capture photos that will last a lifetime.
  • Denali Peak Experience Flight Tour: Take to the skies in a fixed-wing plane for sweeping views of Denali, the surrounding peaks, and the vast wilderness below. On a clear day, you’ll circle North America’s tallest mountain — an unforgettable sight.
  • Denali Flightseeing with Glacier Landing: This tour combines the best of both worlds — a breathtaking aerial view of the Alaska Range followed by a glacier landing for an unforgettable on-ice experience. Perfect if you want the thrill of flightseeing and the rare chance to stand amid Denali’s frozen beauty.
  • Denali Express Flightseeing Tour: Short on time but don’t want to miss the views? The Denali Express offers a condensed version of the classic flightseeing experience, showcasing dramatic landscapes, braided rivers, and towering peaks in just under an hour — ideal for travelers with packed itineraries.

This three-day itinerary captures everything that makes Denali so special — wild landscapes, incredible wildlife, and unforgettable adventures around every corner. Whether you’re a thrill seeker, looking to soak in the scenery, or simply slowing down to appreciate Alaska’s vast beauty, Denali has a way of staying with you long after you leave.
